Ingredients note
Gala apples: Use unpeeled apples for an extra boost of nutrition. Be sure to use fresh apples with no visible bruises or cuts.
Banana: Use ripe, fresh bananas for the best results. This can essentially eliminate the need for added sugar.
Oat milk: Choose your favorite oat milk for this recipe. Unsweetened almond milk or dairy-free yogurt can also be used.
Plant-based protein powder: This is optional but adds an additional nutritional kick to the smoothie. You can use vanilla, chocolate, or plain protein powder.
Instructions
Wash and chop the apple into small pieces and place in a high-powered blender along with the banana, oat milk, and plant-based protein powder (optional).
Adding ice cubes is optional but would be a great option in summer.
Blend until it's smooth and creamy. Pour into glasses and serve cold. Enjoy!
Expert tips
- Add other fruits like strawberries or blueberries to make it extra special.
- For a creamier texture, use frozen banana slices instead of fresh ones.
- Substitute the Oat milk with your favorite dairy-free yogurt for added creaminess. I found that coconut milk is not a great option for this smoothie.
- Add a handful of spinach or kale for an extra nutritional boost.
- Replace the apple with pear or mango for different flavors and nutrients.
- Add chia seeds or flaxseed meals for more fiber and omega fatty acids.
- If your apple and bananas are not sweet, adding a little bit of maple syrup could be helpful.
- Pour this over a layer of pureed acai berries and granola to make it a smoothie bowl.
