The process is rather quick and easy, requiring only four healthy ingredients, each one earning its right for unique reasons. So be sure not to omit any of the ingredients.
The banana gives it sweetness to balance the tart flavor from berries. Avocados give it creaminess while plant-based milk gives the medium. The health benefits are just too obvious for me to point out! You have got to try this!
You could also make a thicker smoothie and make it a smoothie bowl by simply pouring it into a bowl and topping it with your favorite toppings like granola, goji berries, or chia seeds.

Why avocado in a smoothie?
Avocado is full of healthy fats and provides a creamy texture to this smoothie. It also adds lots of fiber and other nutrients like potassium, and vitamin K. Avocados in smoothies taste the best when they are served cold. This makes the smoothie extra creamy too.
Ingredients
- Avocado: Use ripe avocados that are not too squishy. A mild squeeze is all you need to check if they are too ripe.
- Blueberries: I used frozen blueberries but you could use fresh blueberries or any berries that you can find fresh. Blueberries harvested from late April through September taste the sweetest.
- Bananas: Adds more creaminess and sweetness. Use fresh or frozen banana and check for sweetness compared to that of the blueberries. If the berries are also sweet, you can adjust the bananas accordingly.
- Non-Dairy Milk: This will be the liquid base that will help everything blend. I used plain organic oat milk. But almond milk is also another option or you could entirely substitute plant based milk with just water or coconut water.
Instructions
Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender.
Blend until completely smooth. Add more milk or ½ cup water to thin if desired.
Pour into glasses and enjoy!
Expert tips
- If you prefer thick smoothie consistency, adjust the quantity of oat milk or water accordingly.
- If all your fruits are the frozen kind, you would need more of the liquid base (milk or water).
- If all your fruits are the fresh kind, I recommend adding a handful of ice to make the smoothie cold.
- For extra sweetness, add 1-2 pitted dates or a teaspoon of maple syrup or date syrup.
- If you prefer a thinner smoothie consistency, increase the quantity of oat milk.
- Add ice cubes it will create a smooth, thick, chilly texture, or frothy if only a small amount is used.
- If you like the raw spinach taste add ¼ cup of spinach to the smoothie, which makes a nutritious and delicious breakfast.
