Ingredients note

Cacao powder: I like to use raw cacao powder in this cherry smoothie recipe. Cacao powder is less processed than cocoa powder and has a higher concentration of antioxidants and a stronger chocolatey flavor.
If you don't have cacao powder, you can substitute it with unsweetened cocoa powder.
Dark sweet cherries: I love using dark sweet cherries in this recipe because they are naturally sweet and have a lovely deep red color. You can use frozen or fresh cherries in this recipe.
If you can't find dark sweet cherries, you can substitute them with regular sweet cherries or even tart cherries.
Plant-based milk: I like to use unsweetened almond milk in this cherry smoothie recipe, but any plant-based milk will work. Coconut milk adds a little tropical flavor.
Switching to soy milk or oat milk would increase the protein content, but be sure to use unsweetened milk.
That way you only get the healthy fats from milk and not the processed sugar.
Oats: I add oats to this smoothie for some extra fiber and nutrients. You can omit the oats if you'd like, or substitute them with other healthy ingredients like ground flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds.
Agave syrup: Agave syrup is a natural sweetener that I like to use in this recipe. You can substitute agave syrup with other natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
