Ingredients note
- Mushrooms: I used white button fresh mushrooms for this recipe, but you can use any mushrooms you like. Try to stick to local foods as much as possible.
- Onions: I used red onions in this recipe for their sweetness. If you do not have them handy, feel free to use white or yellow onions.
- Spices: I used the basic spices: Garlic powder, black pepper, dried rosemary whole leaves, and dried thyme.
- Hot sauce: I used my favorite, Sriracha sauce, for this recipe. This is my favorite because it gives this dish the perfect amount of heat. You can use any hot sauce you like or skip it altogether if you don't like it spicy.
Instructions
Thoroughly rinse the mushrooms under cold water in a colander to get rid of the dirt.
Use a damp paper towel to pat them dry; ensure they're as dry as possible so they don't release too much moisture while air frying.
Slice the mushrooms in half and slice the onions roughly ¼" in size.
Mix the clean mushrooms, onions, garlic powder, black pepper, rosemary leaves, and dried thyme in a bowl.
Add the sriracha hot sauce, salt, and olive oil. Mix well to get an even coating
Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Add the mushroom mixture to the air fryer basket and spread it into a single layer.
Air fry for about 15 minutes, stirring or shaking the basket once or twice during cooking, until the mushrooms are golden brown and crispy.
Serve them immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or as a side dish. Enjoy!

Storage
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and refrigerated for up to three days.

Top tips
- You must clean the mushrooms thoroughly and pat them dry; otherwise, they'll release too much moisture while air frying.
- Do not soak the mushrooms in water, or they'll become soggy.
- I used a 6-quart air fryer. Be sure to adjust the cooking time if your air fryer is of a different size.
- White onions are a good substitute for red onions.
- Change or substitute the seasonings to your liking. Skip the sriracha hot sauce if you don't like it spicy. Or go with soy sauce.
