Recipe FAQ's
The air fryer is the best way to get crispy falafel. Ensure you lightly oil the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with a little oil before placing it in the patties or balls. This will help them crisp up beautifully. Another way to make them crispier is by increasing the cooking temperature for the last couple of minutes in the air fryer.
Frozen falafel mixes would only cook evenly in the air fryer if they are thawed overnight. The dry falafel mixture offers a better and fresher choice.
You can store leftover falafel in an airtight container. To reheat falafel in the air fryer, air fry them for 3 minutes at 350 degrees.
Tips
- Make sure to get Trader Joe’s falafel mix, not the frozen one.
- Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket or tray. If needed, cook in two batches.
- Flip the falafel at least once during cooking for an extra crispy texture.
- Feel free to add spices, fresh herbs, and other seasonings to customize the taste.
- The falafel mixture is made from a blend of fava beans and chickpea flour. If you do not prefer fava beans, you could prepare your own falafel mix with chickpeas, red onions, fresh cilantro, lemon juice, and other vegan items.
- Use olive oil to spray the falafel patties to expose the great flavors from the ingredients.
