    About this recipe

If you like to have a simple recipe for sweet potatoes then you must make these air fryer sweet potato chunks.

They are so good and so easy to make. All you need is a sweet potato, some oil, and your air fryer.

The great thing about air fryer recipes is that they are usually pretty quick and easy to make.

I find the 'Cosori air fryer' easy to use and clean. I have used it for all my air fryer recipes including air fryer baby carrots, frozen okra, frozen broccoli, and roasted beets.

If you are new to the air fryer recipes then you must start with a simple recipe like this air fryer sweet potato cubes.

Check out the recipe card for more details.

    Sweet potatoes for roasting

There are many different types of sweet potatoes. They all have different tastes and textures.

Most of the time I go for garnet sweet potatoes. This time I got Murasaki Japanese sweet potatoes. A reddish-purple skin with white flesh that turns golden color when cooked.

You could cut them in cubes like I did or Julienne cut them to make sweet potato fries.

    Ingredients note

roasted sweet potato recipe ingredients are on the table.

Sweet potato: I used one large sweet potato that amounted to about 4 cups, for this recipe. If you want, you can use two smaller sweet potatoes, but it's important that you only have a single layer inside the air fryer. Be sure to adjust your cook time if your pieces are more than half an inch thick.

Oil: I used avocado oil because it has a high smoke point and it's healthy. You can also use olive oil or any other oil that you like.

Brown sugar: You can use any type of sugar that you like. I used brown sugar because it has a deep flavor.

Spices: I used red chili powder, turmeric, and black pepper powder. feel free to use your own seasonings.

See all the details of the recipe and the ingredients list on the recipe card!

    Instructions

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F.

cubed and skinned sweet potato are on the cutting board.

Wash the sweet potato and peel the skin and cut the sweet potatoes into cubes. The size of the cubes doesn't matter too much as long as they are all about the same size so they cook evenly.

sweet potato cubes are inside the bowl of water.

Place them in water so that they won't brown and help to remove any excess starch.

Drain the sweet potatoes and pat them dry with a paper towel.

A large bowl is with sweet potato cubes and spices.

In a large mixing bowl, mix together the sweet potatoes, oil, brown sugar, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and black pepper.

sweet potatoes are tossed over spices.

Toss everything together until the sweet potatoes are evenly coated.

Air fried sweet potato chunks are inside the basket.

Transfer the sweet potatoes to your air fryer basket, making sure they're not crowded. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until they're crispy and tender.

make sure to shake them a few times during cooking.

That sums up the easy air fryer side dish. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!

    Recipe FAQ's

Should I soak sweet potatoes before air frying?

Soaking the sweet potatoes in water for 5- 10 minutes helps to remove any excess starch and prevents them from browning. I recommend doing this for the best results.

Are sweet potatoes in the air fryer good for you?

Sweet potatoes are a great source of vitamins and minerals and are also high in fiber. They're a healthy choice for any meal or snack. Air frying is better than deep-frying because it uses very little oil.

What can I serve with air fryer sweet potato cubes?

These sweet potatoes are delicious on their own, but can also be served with your favorite dipping sauce.
Try them with ketchup, BBQ sauce, maple syrup, or ranch dressing. You can also add them to salads or nourish bowls for a filling and satisfying meal.

    Expert tips

    • If you want your sweet potatoes to be extra crispy, cook them for a few minutes longer. Just keep an eye on them so they don't burn.
    • You can add your choice of seasonings to the sweet potatoes. I like to keep things simple with just salt, pepper, and red chili powder, but feel free to get creative! Garlic powder or cayenne pepper powder are a few options.
    • If you don't have an air fryer, you can also bake these sweet potato cubes in the oven. Just preheat your oven to 400F and spread them apart on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until they're tender and crispy.
    • You can choose any variety of sweet potatoes you like for this recipe. I prefer garnet sweet potatoes, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand.
    • Store the cooked sweet potato cubes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. Reheat in the air fryer or oven before serving.
