Why this recipe works
The air fryer creates the perfect crispy exterior while keeping the sweet potatoes moist and fluffy on the inside.
This recipe is easy to make with just a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry.
Unlike regular potatoes, sweet potatoes or yams are a bit sweeter and bring additional natural flavors.
If you like french fries, you are going to love these even more.
These air fryer sweet potato wedges are a healthy option for a delicious side dish or snack. They are baked, not fried, so you can feel good about eating them. Unlike the sweet potato fries recipe, it uses a fraction of the oil needed for crispy fries.
The last time when I made air fryer sweet potato cubes, my kids loved them so much and they took them as snacks to school. So this time they were even more excited to try this recipe.

Ingredients note

- Sweet potatoes: I used Murasaki Japanese sweet potatoes. You can use any type of sweet potato-like Garnet, Beauregard, or Hannah. Look for fat round ones that will offer a good mix of wedges with skin on them and wedges with no skin.
- Oil: I used avocado oil because it has a high smoke point and it is a healthier option for high temps. Extra virgin olive oil or vegetable oil are also good options.
- Spices: I used kosher salt, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, cumin powder, and garlic powder to season the sweet potatoes. You can adjust the spices to your liking.
How to make this
Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F.
Cut the sweet potatoes into wedges on a cutting board and place them in a large bowl.

Add the oil and spices to the wedges to get an even coating.

Spray the bottom of the air fryer pan with an olive oil spray.
Place the sweet potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
Adjust the 'cook time' for 15 minutes, flipping them halfway through.

Remove from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. I like tangy sides like ketchup, vegan sour cream, or vegan ranch dressing.
The best part of this healthy side dish is when your whole family gets to enjoy them within 20 minutes of starting it!

Expert tips
- Try to cut the sweet potatoes into even wedges so they will cook evenly.
- Place them on paper towels or a wire rack to let them cool down before serving.
- Adjust the number of sweet potato wedges depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Flipping the wedges halfway through the air frying step ensures that they do not get burnt on one side.
- Add black pepper and onion powder into the spice mix if you prefer a little more heat and flavor.
- If your air fryer doesn’t have a basket, you can line the air fryer with foil and place the sweet potatoes on top. Just be sure to spray the foil with cooking spray so the potatoes don’t stick.
- Don’t overcrowd your air fryer! If you need to cook more than one batch, cook them in batches so the air can circulate around the potatoes and they will cook evenly.

- If you want extra crispy sweet potato wedges, you can toss them with cornstarch before air frying. Just add a tablespoon of cornstarch to the bowl with the potatoes and oil and mix everything together until the potatoes are coated. Then, air fry according to the recipe instructions.
