    About this recipe

I have used an air fryer to make frozen broccoli, baby carrots, tandoori cauliflower, and frozen okra. Along the same lines, now it's time to make roasted beets.

I love to pair beets with a variety of options. For this recipe, I tried it with a side of rice and dal.

But you can eat these roasted beets as a snack or side dish with your main meal. The flavorful roasted beets could also be used in salads, wraps, or tacos.

This air fryer roasted beets recipe is slightly different from other recipes. Because I have added a few interesting spices and cubed onions.

Beets come in many different varieties like red, yellow, and striped beets. Each variation has its own taste.

So your choice of beets can have a big impact. Red beets are the most common variety and often are round-shaped with a sweet taste.

For this healthy snack recipe, I used red beets.

    Basic Ingredients note

cubed beets are inside the bowl.

Red beets: I used fresh, raw beets, but you could also use frozen beets and adjust the cooking time accordingly. Golden beets are another good option to sub red beets for great tasting air-fried beets.

Spices: This is the secret behind the great taste. I used black pepper and sabji masala powder. Sabji masala powder is a blend of different spices that are commonly used in Indian cuisine. You could also have your own blend of aromatic spices.

Onion: I used red onion for this recipe, but you could also leave it out if desired. Onions bring a sweeter taste to the dish,

Olive oil: I used extra virgin olive oil as well as avocado oil with equally good results.

See all the details of the recipe and the ingredients list on the recipe card!

    Instructions

Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F

Wash and peel the fresh beets with a vegetable peeler. Cut them into small 1-inch pieces. (place the cubed beets on a paper towel if they are wet)

A bowl is with beets, onion and spices.

In a large bowl, mix together the beet cubes, onion, black pepper, sabji masala powder, and salt.

Air fryer basket is with beets mixture.

Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Add the beet mixture to the basket in a single layer. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring once halfway through.

roasted beets are inside the air fryer basket.

After the timer expires, spread the beets on a baking sheet to let them cool a little.

Air fryer beets are ready! Serve immediately. Enjoy!

    Recipe FAQ's

There are a few things you can do to make beets taste better. First, make sure to wash and peel the beets. Second, add some seasoning like salt, black pepper, and sabji masala powder. Third, cook the beets in the air fryer for a crispy texture.

Can I use frozen beets for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen beets. Do not thaw before adding them to the air fryer.

What other recipes can I make with these roasted beets?

There are many recipes you can make with beets. Some of our favorites include beet soup, roasted beet salad, and beet hummus.

    Expert tips

    • Try roasting other root vegetables in the air fryer like carrots, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.
    • Add some freshly squeezed lemon juice over the beets for an extra zesty flavor. This can be a great side dish for curries.
    • You want them to cook faster than this first pressure cook for 2 minutes. then chop them and place them inside the air fryer.
    • For a crispy texture, cook the beets for 20 minutes in the air fryer.
    • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. This will make the beets cook evenly.
    • If you want to make a larger batch, cook the beets in batches.
    • Store them in an airtight container to keep them fresh for a longer timeframe.

    Variation

If you don't have sabji masala powder, you could use any other spice mix like garam masala or Italian seasoning.

You could also add some freshly squeezed lemon juice over the beets for an extra zesty flavor.

Air fryer roasted beets, so easy to make, quick and so much better than boiling beets. I always roast them and keep them in the fridge to use for recipes where I require cooked beets. Tried out your way with spices and onion and loved it.5 stars
