How to make Sweet Potato Gulab Jamun- Here is a step by step instructions with a video...
When your sweet tooth kicks in after a meal, you can just grab a bowl of chilled sweet potato gulab jamuns with its syrup or drop a dollop of vegan vanilla ice cream on it. You cannot go wrong with a dessert-like Gulab Jamun. I have also tried it with Carrot Halwa and it was simply delicious.
However, the challenge now is finding the right replacement for milk powder or khoya. After a few trials, I struck the right combination with sweet potatoes and all-purpose flour. Sweet potatoes offer the fluffy texture while the flour binds them together to get the perfect deep-fried jamuns that will leave you longing for more. The taste is very close to conventional gulab jamuns and everyone in the house gave it a thumbs up.
I even had to make another batch because they asked for more. 🙂 Some of the lessons I learned in this process is to be very careful with the flour. A tad more and the jamuns tend to harden. It is also important not to overcook the sweet potatoes. If they get too soggy, then the dough would not bind as you want it to.
I am hoping my quick video will give you a good idea of what I am talking about.

Made this today. They shriveled up after putting in sugar syrup. I wouldn't say it tasted like the text book jamoon, but definitely a really yummy dessert. Its more like malpua or something similar.. I gulped down about a dozen while making itself ! Will be making again n again !

Hi Tejaswi, I am glad to hear that you tried and liked it. May be adding more flour gives that result. I am trying another recipe sooner I will post that. Thank for writing me and happy cooking:)
