Sesame Bar, also known as Til Chikki, is a classic Indian sweet made with just sesame seeds and jaggery. This traditional vegan candy is crunchy, naturally sweet, and packed with nutrition.
It's especially popular during winter and festivals like Makar Sankranti, but honestly, it's good any time you want a quick homemade treat.
If you love simple Indian sweets made without refined sugar, this sesame chikki recipe is a must-try. If you enjoy this dessert, check my peanut laddu and Rava ladoo.

How to make
Watch the full recipe in the video below! Here's a quick overview:
- Roast sesame seeds until fragrant.
- Melt jaggery until it reaches a sticky, pourable consistency.
- Mix sesame seeds with jaggery (and cardamom, if using).
- Spread the mixture thin and cut into bars while warm.
- Cool completely before enjoying.
Uma's tips
- Roast sesame seeds on low heat to avoid bitterness.
- Cut the chikki while warm; once cool, it will crack instead of slicing.
- Store in an airtight container to keep it crisp.
