Boil 1 cup rice in cooker with 2 star anise.
Place a deep vessel over medium heat with 1 tablespoon of oil. When the oil heats up, drop the bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon pieces and cumin seeds. Fry it for about a minute.
Add chopped ginger and garlic and continue to fry until they turn golden.
Add chopped onions and saute until they turn transparent.
Add chopped tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, chili powder and garam masala powder. Continue to cook and stir until tomatoes are softened.
Add chopped cauliflower and salt to taste. Place a cover and allow to simmer it for 5-8 minutes.
Take the pan off the heat and mix the cooked rice with cauliflower masala.
Serve with your favorite raita and pickle.
