Equipment

Ingredients

  • 16 oz whole white mushrooms
  • 1 red onion
  • salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper powder optional
  • ¼ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha hot sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder or 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaf whole or fresh chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Thoroughly rinse the mushrooms under cold water in a colander to get rid of the dirt.
  • Use a damp paper towel to pat them dry; ensure they're as dry as possible so they don't release too much moisture while air frying.
  • Slice the mushrooms in half and slice the onions roughly ¼" in size.
16 oz whole white mushrooms, 1 red onion
  • Mix the clean mushrooms, onions, garlic powder, black pepper, rosemary leaves, and dried thyme in a bowl.
¼ teaspoon black pepper powder, ¼ teaspoon dried thyme leaves, ¼ teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaf whole
  • Add the sriracha hot sauce, salt, and olive oil. Mix well to get an even coating
salt to taste, 1 tablespoon sriracha hot sauce, 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Add the mushroom mixture to the air fryer basket and spread it into a single layer.
  • Air fry for about 15 minutes, stirring or shaking the basket once or twice during cooking, until the mushrooms are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve them immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or as a side dish. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You must clean the mushrooms thoroughly and pat them dry; otherwise, they'll release too much moisture while air frying.
  • Do not soak the mushrooms in water, or they'll become soggy.
  • I used a 6-quart air fryer. Be sure to adjust the cooking time if your air fryer is of a different size.
  • White onions are a good substitute for red onions.
  • Change or substitute the seasonings to your liking. Skip the sriracha hot sauce if you don't like it spicy. Or go with soy sauce.
