Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 Pepperidge Farm, puff pastry sheets
  • 2 - 3 red apples
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

Instructions

  • First, wash the apples and de-stem them. Then cut the apples into small bite-sized pieces. Set the apples aside in a large bowl. ( I peel my apples, but you don't have to. It's up to you.)
    2 - 3 red apples
  • In a small bowl, mix together the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Set the filling aside.
2 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder, 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Next, unfold one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry out with a rolling pin to make it thinner. Then use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the pastry into 4 equal-sized squares.
Repeat with the other sheet of puff pastry. You should have a total of eight squares. (check above for the step-by- step pictures)
2 Pepperidge Farm, puff pastry sheets
  • Place half of the apple filling in the center of each square. Then fold the pastry over to create a turnover. Use a fork or use a finger to press down on the edges of the turnovers to seal them.
Make sure that they are well-sealed or the filling will leak out while they are cooking. (wet your finger with water while pressing)
  • Preheat your air fryer to 370 F (medium heat) for at least 3 minutes, or according to the manufacturer's instructions for your particular model.
  • Place the turnovers in the air fryer basket in a single layer making sure that they are not touching. And spray the tops of the turnovers lightly with cooking spray. (I like to use an olive oil sprayer.)
Then air fry for 10 minutes. Or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy. (check above for the step-by-step pictures)
  • Remove from the air fryer and let cool on a cooling rack or parchment paper for a few minutes before serving. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Repeat with all of the remaining puff pastry squares. You should have a total of eight turnovers. Enjoy the best homemade apple turnovers.

Notes

  • For the best results, use a sharp knife to cut the apples into small pieces. This will help them to cook evenly.
  • Thaw the puff pastry sheets in the fridge overnight before using them. This will make them easier to work with.
  • If you don't have brown sugar, you can use white sugar in this recipe.
  • I used a Cosori air fryer to make this recipe. You can use any brand that you like. Just make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for your particular model.
  • If the turnovers are browning too quickly, you can lower the temperature of the air fryer. I would recommend lowering it to 350 F.
  • If you want a little extra sweetness, you can drizzle the turnovers with a little bit of maple syrup before serving.
