I love the fact that they make my daily smoothie more filling and meal-like after a brisk walk, but the price tag is just too high! Well, I have a solution for that….Vegan Ragi Drink- Finger Millet Drink! Don’t let this tricky name cause you to pass by…I recently posted this recipe for Ragi Cookies and among all the comments and feedback I got, I noticed that not many people were familiar with this Super food. So I decided to post this recipe and shed some light on Finger Millet. Just type in “Finger Millet” in Amazon and you will find that it is not that difficult to buy. If you looking to lose weight quick, this is one good option for healthy results.

If you have given up dairy foods (Like I did), this grain will provide all the calcium you will need. The recipe for  this drink is fairly simple and takes less than 10 minutes. Not only will you save time and lose weight, you will also spend less on finger millets than you will on protein powder all the while doing a lot more good to the planet by switching to this Vegan alternative. Here’s the recipe….

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Ragi flour
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup soy milk (use any dairy free milk)
  • 1/4 cup Jaggery

Directions:

  1. Sauté the Ragi flour in a pan for 2-3 minutes and add water.
  2. Stir well to avoid lumps
  3. As it thickens, add jaggery and little more water and continue to stir.
  4. As the mixture boils, add the soy milk or your favorite milk alternative
  5. Remove from heat and allow it to cool down a little
  6. Ragi Drink is ready! Serve hot or chilled.

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Yield: 2 cups
